NA1 - Observational Infrastructure Networking

NA1 focused on maximizing the synergies between the two key elements of Europe’s infrastructure in Planetary Science: ground-based telescopes and space missions. Space missions provide the planetary scientists with a wealth of data, but space instruments usually use relatively basic technology due to the harsh space environment. In contrast, ground-based instrumentation employs cutting-edge technology, but planetary scientists must compete with other astronomers to access observing time.

This Networking Activity ensured that there is a permanent and sustainable framework for the pooling of joint resources and co-ordinating of activities between them, in order to prepare and plan future space missions more effectively, to maximize the science return of the current missions and  to increase the opportunities for securing observing time on ground-based telescopes.
